It can be used with excellent results for the safe and controlled cleaning of leather, carpets, and furniture, as well as oil paintings, armor, precious metals, shells, marble, and stone. Vulpex quickly and effectively removes dirt, grease, fatty oils, mineral oils, waxes, and hydrocarbons. Contaminated emulsions remain stable, making them easy to remove. Micro-cracks that hide contaminants undergo deep cleaning, which is rarely possible with standard commercial cleaning agents. Compared to harsh, acid-based cleaning agents, Vulpex is not harmful to health or objects. The final rinse or wipe with clean water neutralizes the surface, leaving nothing behind that could cause preservation problems in the future. If the task does not require a water-based cleaner (e.g., when removing contamination from leather), Vulpex can be mixed with mineral spirits instead of water in a unique way. Vulpex is sold as a thick concentrate and must be diluted before use.
- For normal water cleaning, add one part Vulpex to six to seven parts cold tap water (by volume).
- One part Vulpex to ten to twenty parts solvent is effective for soap.
- As Vulpex is a highly effective degreaser, hands should be protected from loss of natural oils by wearing gloves or using hand cream. Eyes should be protected from contact with the liquid.
