Oxygen absorber ATCO

ATCO oxygen absorbers preseve oxygen-sensitive materials (e.g. rubber) in gas-tight containers. The anoxic atmosphere will slow down the growth of aerobic microorganisms and can also be used for the treatment of insect pests. For very large volumes, it might make sense to flush with nitrogen before introducing the oxygen absorbers. 

ATCO FT sachets contain a fine, slightly sulphurous iron powder, water and sea salt. In a well sealed pouch or bubble made of a special oxygen barrier film, ATCO will lower the oxygen concentration to less than 0.01%.  At 20°C, the oxygen content drops within 48 hours to 0.1%, at 10°C it takes about 72 h and at 5°C for about 96 h.

The variety ATCO FTM 1000 uses specially low-sulfur iron to prevent tarnishing of silver and copper metals. 

The oxygen uptake leads to a warming of the ATCO sachets (up to approx. 42°C). By heating, the bags quickly release water vapor, increasing relative humidity to 75% RH. Therefore, sensitive items should not be in direct contact with the ATCO sachet.

ATCO can be used in both low and high humidity.
